The Preacher’s Mistress on Lifetime

Category: Television and Streaming

We all trust our good friends. But what happens when the person we trust completely isn’t who we think they are? Sarah Lancaster stars in The Preacher’s Mistress, a movie about a single mother trying to make a good life for her seven-year-old son, but trusts the wrong people.

Gwen (Lancaster) is struggling to make ends meet. She had a bad experience with the father of her son who is now dead. Alec is a happy little guy, but is in need of male companionship. Gwen’s mother is trying to fix her daughter up with a man, but Gwen is not looking for a relationship at the moment. All she wants is to finish her online class and provide a good home for her son.

Then, out of the blue, Gwen “accidentally” meets a handsome and charming man. Ed (Drew Waters) is a pharmaceutical salesman and manages to sweep this usually levelheaded woman off her feet. In the meantime, Gwen confides her deepest secrets to her best friend and co-worker Sidney (Natalia Cigliuti). Sidney advises Gwen to pursue the relationship. Maybe Ed is her “Mr. Right.”

When she discovers Ed is in fact a preacher with a wife and kids, her life falls apart. Ed’s wife, an heiress to a large fortune, is found dead and Gwen is framed for the murder. But the reason she is being framed is the twist in the story. While the drama of her life plays out, the message of the film is clear: know who your real friends are.

Hopefully this won’t make viewers paranoid about trusting their friends. It’s an interesting drama about trust, greet, and love. Yes, it’s predictable, but it is also enjoyable to watch. In the end, this leaves viewers with feeling that justice has prevailed. Unfortunately, Gwen’s life as well as that of her son has changed, but at least they are back on the right track. And, just as a side note, the title should be “The Preacher’s Mistresses.”

The Preacher’s Mistress premieres Saturday, November 2, at 8pm ET/PT on Lifetime.
